There are two new alternative procedures out now for people with Gerd Disease. The are called the Stretta Procedure and the Bard Procedure. The Stretta Procedure places an endoscope in the throat and the electrodes burn areas on the muscle controlling the valve. Then scar tissue forms and creates a new barrier to block out stomach acids; this procedure is supposed to be 70% effective according to write ups in papers and magazines. The Bard Procedure places tiny stitches on the LES to tighten the valve and then is pulled into place. Hope I explained that right; if not, close to it. Ths procedure is said to be 98% effective with patients complaining of occasional or no heartburn at all 6 mos after procedure. Since both tests are fairly new the outcome of these procedures and the effects are not known et. The procedures both cost around $2500.

Have your mother take a trip to see her GI specialist and consult with him/her about the new procedures to see if she would even be a candidate.

I'm not sure how to get in touch with C.R. Bard Inc. But as for the Stretta Procedure contact: Gary Jones (Director of Cpostumer Service) At Curon Medical, Inc. 735 Palomar Ave. Sunnyvale, CA 94086 PHONE (408)733-9910 FAX (408)522-8699

Hope this info helps you; keep us all posted on the outcome. JuanitaLynn
