I have been suffering from Gerd for over 20 years. I have had every test including those for the heart and all of the scopes, ph tests, motility tests and upper and lower GI's to name a few. Over the last 5 years, my esophagitus has gotten worse and I have Barrett's type changes on the distal end of my esophagus. In addition to GERD, I have IBS, hiatal hernia, gall bladder disease (to be removed after my next attack), a kidney stone, costal chondritus for 2 yrs., juvenile rheumatoid arthritus, fibromyalgia and a severe inner ear balance disorder which causes servere vertigo for several months at a time. I have been on a bland diet for several years and am trying to lose weight. I recently lost 19 pounds and since then the esophogeal spasm (chest pain) attacks have gotten more frequent and worse. During my last attack, the esophagus was spasming so badly that during my controlled breathing during mu controlled breathing that I do during an attack, I could barely get air through and my neighbor said my face turned purple and wanted to call an ambulance. I refused because I knew what this was. I have seen that other people take Nitro which does not help anymore and now I take nifedipene which is a calcium channel blocker which did not work this last time. I had to drink a half a bottle of mylanta to get relief. I was told by my pharmacist that he has nevertreated anyone with 80 mgs of Prilosec before and I would like to know if anyone is doing the same thing. I am only 41, have been hospitalized 29 times and had 10 surgeries. I would really like to put off having another one. And for those of you who want to know, I have even tried the natural route to no avail. Thanks
