Re: Bile & Reflux

The presence of a little bile in the stomach is normal and one of the reasons stomach acid is important in neutralizing this substance when it does enter the stomach. The overabundance of bile coming up into the stomach can be from an incompetent pylorus or surgery. Some people can avoid heartburn (a symptom) by changing their eating habits. GERD (a disease) is caused by an incompetent antireflux mechanism either at the valve or in the esophagus or both.
