Left side chest pain

I have a chest pain on my left side. I have had this pain for two days now. Yesterday it was a sharp pain in my chest. I have had heart burn problems about once a week. I know it caused by parts of my diet but what can I do when this happens? What should I take and when should I go for serious medical help? What are some foods I should elimainate from my diet? Thank you. P.S. The pain persits under my left breast on the lower left side. I have taken Tums and mylanta and Gas-x none had any lasting effects.
