Yes many people with GERD have no heartburn but what we call "atypical symptoms" Many of these folks have hereditary GERD and think that the sensations they have felt all their lives are normal and they do not report what others who develop the problem later in life complain about. If one has a 10 cm. Hiatal Hernia it is advisable to have it surgically corrected as soon as possible as severe life threatening complications can arise in this situation which we refer to as "Paraesophageal Hiatal Hernia". The pills won't correct this serious problem.
