I am a 46 year old female. I have had heartburn for over 20 years. On 2/10/00 I had first biopsy. Gastric antral biopsy showed mild chronic gastritis, benign. Esophageal biopsy: Barretts with acute and chronic inflammation, benign. The next EGD was completed on 8/19/00. The results were: "Antrum" mucosal biopsies showing changes of chronic gastritis. "Esophagus" mucosal biopsies showing squamocolumar junction and gastric type mucosa - mild inflitrate of mononuculear inflammatory cells within lamina propria, no alcian blue positive cells. Also each biopsy was negative for H pylori. My Dr. suggested repeat EGD in 6 months. He also said I might wish to have fundo done in Pittsburg, Pa. I live in Erie, Pa. I am wondering how the Barrets went away. I heard this is rare. Does the time schedule of repeat EDG sound appropriate to you. With this bit of background, does a fundo sound like the next step. I have made the appropriate diet changes, but have not been able to completly quit smoking. Still 1/2 pack daily. Could you please explain the second EGD results to me in laymans terms. Thank you in advance. Kathy P
