painful spot in chest

I had an upper gi which showed gerd. I had very minimal burning, if any, & my doctor had me start taking Prevacid 30mg. Now 3 weeks later, I have terrible heartburn, & I have a painful spot just left of my sternum under my breast, which is only noticed when I roll on my side, bend over, or push something. I am scared the Prevacid has done something to my esophagus! Does this sound like an esophageal problem?
