Gagging and closing of the throat

I'm 26 and just started having problems with gagging. My sister who is 29 is having the same problem.

I'll try to describe what's happening to the best of my ability. I can be talking (or not) and I will start to feel a gagging sensation in my throat along with the urge to throw up, and also feeling like my throat is closing up. A couple of times I have had sharp pains in my throat. When the gagging starts I am unable to talk while it's happening and a few minutes after it stops. I had a Barium swallow, and it come up negative. I thought it was stressed related, but it will happen out of the blue, I also thought it was food related, but like I stated before, it will just happen. The only time I know when it will happen is if I chew gum for more than 15 minutes.

Thank you in advance, any suggestion will be greatly appreciated.
