Prilosec & other pain medications

I have GERD and occasionally take Prilosec. How long before taking a pain medication such as Lortab or Demerol should I start Prilosec? Also, I was in an accident & sustained broken bones-in any future similar situation would it be wise to start Prilosec immediately to protect from acid reflux caused by pain medication given, or better to take Pepcid AC instead in case they have to operate (fewer other drug interactions?) Thanks so much.
