Stomach Problems and Anemia

I've posted a few questions in the last week about stomach problems and today I read somewhere that people who have stomach problems also could have Iron defficent anemia, that somehow they relate to each other or something. Could that be true, and what would that mean in terms of stomach problems??? How could they relate or whatever??? I went to see a doctor about three years ago about always being tired and after blood tests they said I was anemic and put me on iron pills. It kind of helped some with the tiredness. But I haven't been taking the iron for about a year now. It was always hard to remember to take them when I did because I would have a stomach ache in the morning and wouldn't eat anything and I was told by people who have taken iron pills to not take them unless I had eaten something because they can make you have a really bad stomach ache, which I didn't need since I have enough of them without the iron pills. Thanks for your help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
