If you find a good surgeon, one who does Nissens a lot, that person can tell you what the prognosis is for YOU. The outcome depends on a lot of factors, including how advanced the disease is, the condition of the LES, the condition of the esophagus, whether there is a hiatal hernia (and how bad it is), in addition to whatever other health factors are involved for each patient, etc., etc. Oh and of course, it also depends on the surgeon's knowledge and skills. An incompetent surgeon will no doubt perform a Nissen that fails. And it's always a good idea to get a second opinion (and maybe third) from someone who has no interest financially in your decision.
