Hiatal hernia reduction

While struggling and straining to get my christmas tree into the house I noticed my chest pain resolved. Afterward I experimented with taking a breath and holding my breath for a few seconds and sometimes this produces a burp and relieves the discomfort. I think breath-holding in this way increases the pressure inside the chest forcing the esophagus and upper stomach back down below the diaphragm where they belong. This temporarily reduces the hiatal hernia. Anyone else tried this? Steve (family doc)
