As I've been mentioning in other posts, I've come to the belief that many of our symptoms are stress related. For many of us a diagnosis has been somewhere on the horizon for many months or even years. The number of symptoms possible from GERD/IBS are a mile long and mislead many of us and our doctors to faulty diagnosis. If you scan the internet with a handful of symptoms like shortness of breath, chest pain, back pain, coughing and headache you could learn that you have anything from terminal cancer to heart disease to a common cold. In short, this stuff is very tricky.
I recently mentioned that I've been taking Elavil for the anxiety (stress)I've felt for the 6 months I struggled to find a doctor with an accurate diagnosis. I've seen a family doc, pulmonologist, cardiologist and finally a teriffic GI who has diagnosed me with GERD/IBS. To attempt to ease the symptoms noted earlier he placed me on Elavil. In only 1 week on the lowest dose (25mg) the pains have been eliminated.
Amazing! Ask your docs about Elavil. It's an anti-depressant that also aids in pain relief for our symptoms. If you're worried about the stigma of taking an anti-depressant, GET OVER IT! What wouldn't you do to get beyond these mysterious symptoms?
