Elavil(Amitriptyline) saved me. I had bad Gerd symptoms for 18 months and lost 30 lbs. PPI's didn't get rid of half of symptoms. Finally the head of Internal Medicine at a large university medical Center recommended Elavil. He had tried it on several patients successfully. It reduces nerve pain in the esophagus and that's all I needed in conjuction with the Prevacid. I felt better in 24 hours than 18 months of testing a and trying different drugs. I still have GERD and always will unless I have surgery but the symptoms are controlled and I live normal life.
