I have had a similiar course with GERD. No problems until Jan '00 had a terrible cough and couldn't stop coughing. Then I was up all night, had an acute episode of reflux for about one month, and lost my voice. It was all in the throat and vocal cords. Terrible post nasal drip. Then I was put on 80mg. of Prilosec a day and got better. After about 2 months went down to 60mg. My first endoscope said I had Barrett's Esophagus, which means that I've been refluxing for years with no symptoms, except post nasal drip. I had a venal vagal episode several years ago, which consisted of a feeling of being faint for several hours. Was in the emergency room. No one knows why people get this, except "stress", but I've since read that one hypothesis is GERD. My latest endoscope showed no inflammation and no Barrett's. I eat a low fat high fiber diet and feel pretty good, but everytime I go off the meds or cut back, I feel sick.
