I know , this is the "heartburn-support" - messageboard from "heartburn-help", and I hope ,my question about "not having heartburn" isn't off topic.

I never had heartburn , but a weak LES and Nissen-fundo in dec99 . In March I suddenly got "pressure" at UES (lump in throat ?), mild pain in throat on swallowing and sometimes mild pain along upper esophagus area. These symptoms are always mild but permanent and don't disappear. I also had them for 1-2 weeks in nov99 . Omeprazole/prilosec seems to help a bit ,I'm not sure (only had 3 capsules so far). I assume, I'm having reflux and my wrap had loosened after 3.5 months.

Now I read somewhere on the web yesterday in an old article , that there are 2 sorts of GERD patients : some go to the gastroenterologist because of heartburn and some go to the otolarynologist because of throat/voice problems. This second sort usually hasn't heartburn , but laryngopharyngeal reflux. Their GE-reflux in esophagus isn't aggressive , they have no esophagitis , but throat problems , since the pharynx is more sensible to reflux than the esophagus.

Has anyone here GERD without heartburn ? I only found one message (from Sarah K) , while searching for "no heartburn" here in the archive.

Werner.
