Hi, you are not alone. I developed an acute case of acid reflux 4 months ago after an upper respiratory infection with bad coughing. My father had died of pulmonary fibrosis (scar tissue in lungs) and had terrible heartburn for years; his father had died from throat cancer and his brother had died from esophageal cancer. Given these statistics, my Dr. referred me to an gastroenterologist who performed an endoscopy in March....and I was given a dignosis of Barrett's esophagus and a hiatal hernia. This means that I've probably had acid reflux with no symptoms for about 10-15 years. The only symptom was bad post nasal drip, and a lot of throat clearing. I also have always belched a lot. I am starting to investigate Barretts, need to get the report from the Dr. about the endoscopy. The nurse was the one who told me, and had no information about tissue involved. I am hanging out at the Barrett's board now!
