Concern about continued Gastritis

I seem to have what my doctor agrees is a lingering mild case of Gastritis, brought on (possibly) by my reaction to Prevacid. I am now trying to step down from the Prevacid with Zantac, but my concern is the length of time I've had this stomach problem. The acid-reflux has been under control for a good eight weeks, but I continue to have a peculiar appetite, and occassional "warm" sensations in my stomach. I tested negative for the helicobactor, and as I say, I think it may have been my reaction to the Prevacid, but what I'm wondering is, if I continue to have this Gastritis (or whatever it is), and they do an endoscopic (which I would have to pay for-- in between insurance), if they see inflammation, won't they just want to treat it with more Proton Pump Inhibitors? I'm not worried about the Big C, because I had had an Upper GI Barium Swallow done, and there was no indication whatsoever of anything other than my hiatal hernia, and the acid reflux. Plus I haven't thrown up once since all this started. Any ideas?
