Re: HIATAL HERNIA/ACID REFLUX

Lori, Bloating is NOT a typical symptom of acid reflux. Nor, for that matter, is abdominal pain. Acid reflux, remember, injures the esophagus, and in the classic case, this would be felt at substernal pain (heartburn), not abdominal pain. How did your doctor reach the diagnosis of hiatal hernia? (By UGI or endoscopy?)

At least one alternative diagnosis for what you describe would be gallbladder disease. Has this been evaluated? Abdominal pain and bloating is a t least as suggestive of this as reflux disease, and if your gallbladder hasn't been checked out I would consider an sonogram of the gallbladder.
