I am not a doctor but I can tell you that I went off the prilosec the day before surgery and my surgical team were not happy with this. The anesthesiologist told me that I should have taken a prilosec several hours (maybe about 6?) before the surgery. I told them I was celebrating without the prilosec and threw the capsules away and had a sip of coffee about 6-8 hrs earlier? They told me that I could choke on small amt of grounds and why didn't I take the prilosec??? Why! Why! I didn't choke but call your surgeon and ask for his opinion...or better yet the anesthesiologist.
