Your symptoms and their persistance are prototypical of the average patient with severe reflux disease. You are now starting to fail Protonix. Most physicians will increase the dose or change to a new proton pump inhibitor. In either case, these measures are likely to fail in the future. When you are tired of this, you need to see a surgeon who is an expert at laparoscopic fundoplication. He will order a 24 hour pH study and esophageal manometry. If the pH study is positive for severe reflux and your symtpoms coorelated with the reflux episodes, you can be assured that you will likely have an excellent outcome from the operation.
