Re: Pregnancy and Prilosec

I would recommend stopping Prilosec now. I have done many experiments on the effects of gastric development by Prilosec. Needless to say, it's not good. If you can't stand being off Prilosec when you're not pregnant, you will not be able to stand it when you are. Almost all pregnant women suffer increasing indigestion and heartburn as the pregnancy goes along. Antacids are clearly the safest. H2 blockers are somewhat safe during pregnancy (e.g. Tagamet, Pepcid). If you cannot take being off Prilosec, I would recommend laparoscopic fundoplication prior to getting pregnant so that these medications will not be necessary.
