My gastro decided to put me on a study for a new drug called Zelmac(tegaseros). Apparently it has the same effects as metaclopramide but without the sedation effects and headaches that metaclopramide causes. I was on rantadine, metaclopramide, prilosec, protonix, zantac, pepto, and tagamet. I always seem to feel nauseated evertime I ate something and it was worse in the evening. I had an upper endo done....nothing, negative for h pylori, had an upper GI.....negative, abd ultrasound....negative, HIDA scan(too see if is gallbladder related)....it is borderline normal. So finally after gathering my all my labs, xrays, records....he decided to put me on a study his hospital is doing for Zelmac. A lot of protocol involved....calling into drug company survey line, it is a blind study so 25% chance I will get a placebo, and I have to get an EKG, blood, urine, and everything else but my Dr said this should help my problem. I hope so. I will keep everyone posted. I have to go through a borderline phase in which for 2 weeks I have to livew with my symptoms with no medication and then rate them on a novartus 800 line then I get the pills come tuesday 2/13 for 8 weeks.
The only downfall is that after the 8 weeks I cannot get the drug anymore since it is only in stage 2 and not approved yet by the FDA. If it doesn't work then it doesn't matter....but if zelmac works ...it is only 8 weeks of feeling better. I well let everyone know how things went.
