My husband was diagnosed with GERD last fall. He had the scope done and was told he had a "slight hiatel hernia" and major esophagitis (up to his throat). He never has heartburn or abdominal pains: his major symptom was coughing/gagging. We finally realized that all of this started after he passed his kidney stone. The pain meds (and pain) made him throw up CONSTANTLY for two days. After that, the coughing/gagging started. Could the severe esophagitis be irritation from throwing up so much? Like I said, no heartburn, ab pains, chest pain, etc. What do you think? He is on prevacid and the gagging/coughing doesn't seem to be getting any better. We have the been elevated, he watches what he eats, stays up for two hours after eating, etc. Should he be on the PPI's or something else? I would appreciate your comments.
