Most but not all patients with reflux have hiatal hernias. So the presence or absence of a hernia is not absolutely related to GERD. If you have been shown to have reflux with a 24 hour pH test, then you have reflux. It doesn't matter whether or not you have a hiatal hernia. Alan White
