For 14 months I was on Prilosec 40mg per day. When I began having more severe and frequent reflux episodes, my doc changed me to Protonix. She also gave me a prescription for Reglan (sp?) but warned me that I might have a reaction to the Reglan that might require me to go to an emergency room. I did switch to the Protonix, but I did not fill the reglan prescription. It took me about 4 weeks to get use to the Protonix - it gave me bad stomach pain. I had to get off of it for a week because my doctor wanted me to see her again before she would refill it. During that week, I went to withdrawal. Now I am back on it and am having the stomach pains again. Is this normal? Would the Reglan help to stop the side effects?
My Doc said she won't consider surgery for me. (I have a hernia & GERD.) She actually was rude when I saw her last - she is mad because I haven't lost major pounds. (If it was that easy for me to lose weight, I would have.)
