The rebound I believe you are referring to is the excess or over productivity of acid that occurs when you stop your meds. This is due to the fact that a hormone, called gastrin, is overproduced because your acid has been shut off. When you stop turning your acid off, the gastrin is on board and tells your stomach to make acid and it does. If you have been on drugs a long time and your gastrin is real high, you will get more effect. How long is dependent on how high it is and how fast you metabolize it. It may make you quite symptomatic. I don't know if tapering will have any impact on it. Alan White
