Judy, This is a tough clinical call. IBS is so different from individual to individual and one's tolerance is so variable. The USC surgeon is quite correct in wanting to repeat your studies. I would submit that if your studies are still borderline that the GERD component of your illness is not the most prominent and may very well be the IBS. The answer in general is that all patients swallow air after this procedure and get some distention and increased flatulence. If patients have one statement at 6-12 weeks after this surgery, it is just that. I never have had to take down a repair, however, because of these complaints. Alan White
