pain even on medications

Hello, I have been on Prilosec 40 mg for three months. I still have pain in the upper left abdomen that is intermittent. I have not had an endoscopy which my physician is pushing for me to have. Additionally, in the mornings I have waterbrash and dry heaves intermittently. Does this sound like GERD or an Ulcer? Should the prilosec be stopped and I be started on something else? Is is unusual for the prilosec to stop working? Thanks for the information.
