To Jim or anyone else re Esophagitis

Have been off of PPI's now for six weeks. Although I don't have as much rebound symptoms as I did when I first stopped, I still have what I would call mild to moderate heartburn and a sore throat. I am wondering if this is esophagitis and would like to know if I will have to go back on the darned PPI to heal it. Also am wondering how long it takes to damage the esoph. and how long it takes to heal it. One GI told me it takes many months to damage esoph. and one GI told me a few weeks. Really, it is just my throat that is bothering me at this time -- no spasms, no stinging stomach. I did have a bad flu two weeks ago with a horrible sore throat -- any association? Please let me know if you have experienced this. Thanks to you all. jula
