PPI's are more effective and that's what you're using. They completely suppress acid. H2 blockers-- Zantec, Pepcid, Tagamet -- only neutralize it (somebody correct me if I'm wrong). There's some dispute among doctors and surgeons as to whether it is harmful to take PPI's long-term. Evidence shows there are pretty safe. SOME surgeons are now saying they could potentially promote Barretts Esophagus by suppressing acid but not bile. It is still controversial.
