traveling stomach cells

I was dxed with GERD. After the endoscopy, the doc mentioned something about having stomach tissue in my esophagus. Can you tell me what you know about this condition? Once in awhile I expel things from my mouth. It looks like some sort of tissue, and has a very bad odor. Could this be what he was talking about? Thank you for your time.
