43yr old/healthy/normal weight/non smoker/non drinker. Started 4 weeks ago with difficulty swallowing, felt like an object lodged in upper esophagus. Barium swallow shows a swelling. Thyroid ultrasound normal. CT chest scan normal. Took prednisone (4mg)and Prilosec (40mg). While on prednisone - inflamation was better, less difficulty swallowing. As soon as tapered off symptoms return, this week began experiencing Severe heartburn (still on Prilosec) almost constantly, especially bad after eating. ENT prescribed another dose of steroids (again temporary relief then symtoms return). Doc says return in 2 weeks. With heartburn lasting for hours on end and difficulty swallowing no better - Should I wait 2 weeks? Should I be looking at other possible problems/tests/treatments? What questions should I ask my doctor?
