Not all gastroenterologists biopsy if the esophagus looks normal, but I appreciate it when they do! She is looking for microscopic evidence of esophageal irritation, and even for early changes that might suggest that some patients are at greater risk than others to develop cancer. Her decision to biopsy if everything looks normal is probably just her routine, so don't be alarmed by this.
