passing out while eating

Comments

Dear Doctor: I recently have had two incidents of passing out while eating. Food has gotten stuck in my throat, would not go down, and resulted in passing out. I was unconscience for a few seconds. My breathing was not affected. I have no other medical conditions and my general health, otherwise, is excellent. I am 52. My doctor has given me the following tests--all with negative results: barium swallow, echo-cardiagram, stress test, Holter moniter and EEG. He tried to explain it to me saying something about the Vegas nerve, and that I should just chew my food more thoroughly. He had no further advice or a solution to my problem. Can you offer any suggestions or advice? Thanks, Paul Jay
