My child has spastic quadraplegia - cerebral palsy. He suffered Intraventricular hemhorrage before birth. Has oral motor difficulty which was why we had the g-tube placed 2 yrs later, he is showing more signs of significant reflux, which is making it difficult for his to lie flat for any period of time without putting him into a full extension pattern. It's been progressively getting worse for past six months, We have him on zantac (which actually seems to be painful to take) prilosec, and tegretol as well as baclofen. I've looked all over for information specifically targets at children with c.p., feeding tube and v.p shunts, and my question is: Can you help me find a resource specifically for special needs children under five? How common is it that children with these problems have GERD type symptoms and is there alternatives before going straight to the Nissen fundoplication?
