Hey Jula, What a hoot! I am supposed to have my ph/manometry on 5/8 as well. This will be my second. The first showed reflux within the Demeester normal. And a normal les. And normal peristalsis. I am doing it again specifically to see if I should go back on ppi's really and also to lay down this time which I did not do last time. Last time I had a great day.
Last time, I made a couple mistakes. One, I stopped zantac two days b4 the test - had it at nite a double dose. I think it is best you stick with mylanta and tums in the three days b4 the test. Do not take anything at all the day b4. And try to eat not just the day of, but the day b4 a normal type of diet. The day b4 you can take tums, but don't use anything else if you can help it. I took mylanta nitetime the nite b4 and regurged it in the early a.m.
Do not be afraid of these tests - they are just a little uncomfortable (the Ph) but not that bad. I dread a mammogram more. The thing about sore throat, I did a lot of sipping water and swallowing - which is an effective way to clear reflux. Try not to do alot of that. Losenges may be ok, but will still cause a lot of swallowing. Why are you having these tests anyway, is it to be approved for surgery or to decide to go on ppis again?
