Hey PJ - I want domperidone (also known as motilium). My gi wants me to use reglan. I refuse because I don't like the side effects. I have asked her for domperidone to no avail. Actually this week called my intern dr and asked for erythromicin. May be a little too soon to tell but but it seems to be working. Of course, it is an antibiotic, and so can't take forever. Right now i had been off prevacid for almost 3 weeks, taken it for three bec. of laryngitis that I thought could be from acid reflux, but there was alot of stress in my life last week when that happened. Got letter in mail to do ph/manom on 5/8 - so cannot do anymore ppi as of today. So right now on erythromycin and a very low dose of xanax, which has helped the nitetime reflux once b4 so I decided to try it again - actually my intern decided to try it again, even tho he is not crazy about xanax. I am on .25 two times a day. Once I take it around 10 in am, then I take it around 9 pm. How this can help reflux I am not exactly sure. I know it is for panic attacks, which I do not have. Altho I know I suffer from above average anxiety. But the other thing is that xanax is a CCK (cholecystokinin) antagonist. And I have come across some research that says that CCK could be one of the neurotransmitters that cause transcient relaxation of the lower esophageal sphincter. CCK is also a regulator of bile flow. Don't know if I have bile reflux. But do know I get a ton of reflux at nite, which does not burn, but is there. Had ph/manom 3 months ago normal les, normal peristalsis, ph under the demeester score - not pathological. I believed the manom. readings, but still think the ph may have been just a very good day for me. Or it could be I have alkaline reflux (bile?) STill even with the normal les, there is the LESTR (transcient relaxation) which I think is what happens to me) I am supposed to do this ph again in 10 days. Before I go back on a ppi, I want to see how it reads. So in ref. to the domperidone, (motilium) go for it - its better than reglan. How the heck are you getting it. I thought it was not approved here yet. My gi does not seem to be able to write it for me. That is why I'm taking antibiotics. which seem to be working. There is an excellent gi practice down at Piedmont Hospital - Digestive Healthcare of Georgia. There are a couple of excellent docs down there I have learned of J. Patrick Waring, who is from Emory. And Valerie J. Jagiella, who I was just yesterday referred to by a friend of mine. Also, another same practice Booker H Dalton Jr. If you decide you want to switch gi's - this is the practice that I would switch to if I made a move. Right now I am with a practice in Marietta, which is a good practice, but my doctor is just not a good communicator. And I need a good communicator to be comfortable. The problem is the gi' s at Piedmont do not go to Kennestone Hospital which is where O'Reilly (surgeon) operates. I don't know that that is such a big issue. If you decided to follow up with a gi at Piedmont - then you may want to see who they recommend for surgeon for fundo if that is what you are thinking about. I felt very good about my surgeon for that operation, but we have never had the partial vs. nissen conversation yet, bec I have not gotten to that point. I am sure he can do both, but he prefers the partial. I don't think there is anything wrong with interviewing 2 surgeons b4 you decide on the surgery, what exact procedure will be done, and finally who you feel best to do it. Keep me posted. AND PLEASE TELL ME ABOUT THE DOMPERIDONE, IS YOUR DOCTOR ABLE TO GIVE IT TO YOU - DOES HE HAVE SAMPLES OR WHAT???
