I let myself have coffee occasionally (usually a cup every few months). But having it regularly is the worse thing I can do. It sets off a cycle of GERD with me. Also, light white wines like Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay do not bother me, and in fact seem to help! But I cannot even tolerate red wines. Meats and high protien foods make me worse, as does corn. I can have chocolate occasionally. Fresh fruits really bug me, but saucy tomato things are ok!
I guess it comes down to finding out what forbidden foods are for you and avoiding them. The list of forbidden foods that is passed around for GERD sufferers are to be taken with a grain of salt. See what works for you and what doesn't. Just make sure that you give each questionable food item a try on its own (just eat bland food that you know you are ok with for several days before and after your "test") That way you know which ones are which.
