I also have throat problems and I was also told that my mouth breathing plays a big part in my problems. I have pretty much conquered the mouth breathing thing during the day, but there is nothing I can do at night:) Actually, the ENT said that there was a velcro face wrap thing that plastic surgery patients use, but I couldn't find one easily.

Apparently swallowed air causes reflux, and may also dry the throat out so that things don't clear as quickly as they might.

How is your saliva production? Xerostomia is a major problem for those that have reflux-related throat problems, because of the fact that what stuff comes up doesn't stay there that long.

Don't you feel like a ping-pong ball going back and forth between the GI and ENT folks? The solution to this is to find an ENT who treats reflux. The best in the country is Koufman at Wake Forest University. There are others around the country. Another way to find one would be if you know a surgeon who does the Nissen, you might ask if there are any ENTs who do referrals directly, without going through a GI specialist.

Was the 24-hr pH test done with dual (or triple) probes? That is so important. Most people with ENT symptoms do not have a positive test with a single probe. Most people with ENT symptoms DO have a positive test with a double probe.
