I am scheduled for Nissen surgery on June 28. My surgeon, who is very experienced in this surgery, usually discharges patients on the same day as the surgery. This has me a little concerned, although I can spend the night if I want to. I am wondering how long others who have had the surgery have spent in the hospital and what they think of same day discharge. Also I live alone. Should I plan to have someone stay with me the first few nights or do you think I'll be ok? My hopes for this surgery are high, an end to heartburn and a reduction in asthma would be optimal, although I will settle for an end to heartburn. Maybe it's asking to much to expect to be able to both eat and breath.
