From: 6-month post-Nissen update
Date: 06/08/01
Time: 15:29:36
As a reminder, I've been in the "slow group" regarding recovery. Didn't get back to work full-time until March, for example. Everything went well, just SLOWLY. I used the word "glacial" a lot to describe my "progress"!
I rarely think about eating carefully anymore. I've had one mild spell of esophageal spasms in the last month, when I was eating in a hurry, but they were extremely weak, and I hardly noticed them. They weren't painful at all. Fatigue and low energy had been bothering me a lot, but that's improved too.
My only problem (and I would appreciate thoughts from other post-fundo people on this please) is that the food in my company cafeteria bothers me so much I really can't eat there. I am, of course, tired of having to bring my own lunch. As I have no trouble with restaurant food in general, and as the cafeteria food did not bother pre-surgery, I am at a loss to know what the problem might be. But it does seem to be related to the fundo. About an hour after the meal, I will start feeling like I've eaten "bad" food that's given me severe indigestion, and I'll be very uncomfortable for the next day or so. Just so you know, the cafeteria is an excellent place, the envy of people who work elsewhere. It has a lot of variety (from burgers to ethnic foods), but I haven't found anything there that doesn't cause this reaction. That is, I could eat from their Chinese menu and feel bad, while the very same dish at a Chinese restaurant wouldn't bother me at all.
This will be my final post-Nissen update, as I feel I won't have anything new to say after this. I will continue to answer questions and share my life and times as a gerdie, of course.
