I started having extremely bad heart burn and tried to control it with diet, exercise and tums. It got too bad, so my doctor gave me Prevacid. After 3 months I started having symptoms that seemed exactly like a heart attack. Sharp chest pain, numbness in my left arm, extreme dizziness, etc. AND I started to have a constant underlying chest pain that was more dull and moved from left to right, but was very painful, and I also started to have very bad palpitations and a racing pounding heart beat. My heart checks out fine (thank the Lord above), and I do have a heitial hernia, but I also found out that Prevacid on rare occasions can cause heart problems like angina, congestive heart failure, and palpitations. Before I knew this my doctor doubled my dosage and thats how I found out(thought I was gonna die with the pounding heart). The double dosage took away the chest pain, but it made my heart freak out like it was going to pound out of my chest, even lying in bed at night. So I switched to Nexium, the heart problems stopped but now I have the chest pains back. Apparently GERD or Acid Reflux can mimick heart attack symptoms. But now I find out that Nexium can cause an irregular heartbeat on rare occasions. Is there any treatment out there for Acid reflux, GERD, or a Hietial hernia that won't cause damage to my heart and make me go to the ER yet again?
