I heard that long term use of a PPI can stimulate the stomach to grow more acid producing cells. When the Med is stopped then the stomach would produce more acid than before the begining of PPI therapy. I took PPI's for 6 mounths. I tried to stop a few times but my stomach would start hurting after a few days. When I was doing better I stopped with out a rebound. The PPI Meds have caused some damage to my digestion and caused a partial blockage in the intestines. Residue from undigested food.
