I was down on the Florida coast on business but my thoughts and prayers were with you on the 12th. I'm so glad to hear you're on the road to recovery! As for the gas pains, I found they came in two distinct phases. First, there is the need for the gas used to inflate your torso during surgery to "escape" your body. I found that some of it collected in my shoulders. This went away after a couple of days. And yes, walking certainly helps. The second phase of gas pain was/is a little tougher. I assume some of it was caused by "surgery gas" but also from other sources. When I spoke with my surgeon's office, they said to avoid dairy products, brans, and drinking from a straw. They said the gas was also caused by my ingesting air while I ate/drank. They recommended "Gas-X" but that didn't really help. "Mylanta Gas" seemed to work better for me. Someone at this site suggested charcoal and that has helped immensly. (You can get it at a health food store.) I still have a few sever gas pains but they are shorter and much further apart. I go up to Emory tomorrow for my post-surgical follow up. I'm going to ask a lot of questions about the gas and what else I can do about it. I would also like to know if this will be a permanent condition or if it will diminish and disappear in a few weeks/months. I'll keep you and the rest of this message board updated if I find out anyting of value.
It's great to hear your surgery went well! I pray you have a complete and rapid recovery.God bless, Robin
