Hi Laurie, I'm 4+ weeks post-fundo and I've had a pretty good go of it. My hospital stay was 5 days but I had another minor complication during sugery. It had nothing to do with the procedure itself. What happened was my IV catheter got messed up and my hand and forearm swelled up something fierce. My first night in the hospital was in ICU due to the catheter problem. Regardless, after suffering GERD since I was 18 (I'm now 45) I finally have relief from the disease. Everyone is different but if I had it to do all over again (knowing what I know), I would certainly do it. Granted, fundo is still a fairly major surgical procedure but if your surgeon is competent & experienced, you should have very little trouble. You'll have some discomfort after the procedure but reasonable pain killers should help you through the first few days. Post-op, take your doctor's advice but if there is any one thing to help you heal quickly, I'd have to say walking/mobility is the fasted way to go. This will help relieve gas and get your body back to some semblance of normality.
Check this message board as often as you need to. Lord knows there is plenty of experience that is shared here. Do with this what you will and don't hesitate to ask more questions. Having awareness about the procedure will go a long way to your comfort level and subsequent healing. Everyone who contributes to this board has a genuine desire to learn, and later to impart their personal experiences.
So hang in, you're with friends! And remember, the only silly question is one you know the answer to. Keep us posted and good luck, Robin
