I just finished researching (LPR) when I started reading your posts on the subject. I'm being treated for GERD(with esophagitis) with Pepcid 40mg BID. Both Prevacid and Nexium were ineffective for heartburn. Pepcid keeps me heartburn free. About the same time I have started having hoarsness and irritation in the Larynx and possibly the Trachea. I visited an ENT doctor to rule out tumors, poyps, etc.. I see him again next week and will discuss LPR. Is it possible to treat LPR sucessfully with Pepcid? I will ask for a double ph monitoring to see how the Pepcid is doing before I go back on a PPI. thanks, D.

I did search on “juice fast” on old message boards, but I couldn't find a single discussion. I think it is the subject worthwhile to discuss. Many people including the Bible talk about and experienced that “fasting” heal many kinds of diseases. (It is also God’s promise in the Bible.) If you do search on fast or “juice fast” on a regular searching engine like google, then you find many different sites. Yet, nobody on this GERD site has not talked about fasting as far as I know. Let’s talk about fasting more and can get benefit from that if many people with so many different disease have already got benefit. My personal opinion based on my experience is that “water fasting” is out of question for a GERD patient because empty stomach without having food contend inside the smoach would harm more to stomach and esophagus. My personal gut feeling tells me, however, that vegetable juice and vegetable broth fasting might help us tremendously. What I mean “juice” here is the vegetable juice which contain celery, parsley, etc, and which is freshly extracted at home. Occasional apple juice extracted at home fresh might work also. But I think fruit juice would not work because it is already acid and too much sugar content in it. But I think vegetable broth may be or should be used along with fresh juice. Drinking this vegetable juice during the fasting for every 2 or 3 hours or as necessary bases might benefits us in 2 effects, which controls the acid content in stomach and enough energy to sustain in fasting a long period time without difficulty or danger so that body speed up the healing process. If we can just overcome a period of time which aggravate our stomach and esophagus by using the vegetable juice, broth or traditional aids like DGL, ginger tea, then we can continue fasting a little longer even with water fasting so that body heal our esophagus and restore our mechanism. Personally I believe that the relaxed LES would be restored completely because our body is still alive. It should not be consider as same as a dead rubber band. And I thing “juice fasting” might have some potential for treatment along with good and careful diet follow up. Please write comments.

Please read my previous posting Has anyone have information on juice fasting relating with Gerd treatment. It seems to me if we can just overcome a period of time that prevents heartburn reflux during fasting, reflux would go down, and then a healing process would take over as usual many fasting exhibit its good side. Of course no medication during fasting. I thing that the length of fasting time would be at least several days in order that body overcome the reflux system. This is my theory. Does anyone any information on juice fasting. I think water fasting would be impossible to a GERD patient. But with vegetable juice, which contains alkaline, we might control initial reflux. Any information?
