In my case, prior to my fundoplication, I used to have sharp pains around my heart almost every day. It scared my silly at first, but I had a couple of normal EKGs and I was (and still am) very physically active and healthy other than the GERD. So I figured the heart pain must be due to the GERD and did not worry about it anymore. However, since my surgery, those pains have completely disappeared.
