Hello All,
The past year my GERD has gotten worse. I went to my GI in January and was started on Prilosec. Worked well, except for a new symptom. While asleep, I would get acid would back up into my throat. Not a pleasant thing! This has only happened a handful of times.
Last month I switched to a new physician as mine had moved. All my records were transferred. He put me on a 6 week trial of Nexium. On the follow up last week. He said just to continue taking the Nexium.
Well, this week, I started getting hot flashes, nausea, and my menstrual cycle was a week late. I noticed that the Nexium can cause these side effects.I took myself off the Nexium two days ago and phoned the Dr. today.
He changed my prescription to Protonix. I've never heard of this drug. I went to their web-site and noticed that one should only be on it for no more than 8 weeks. My physician wants me to take this forever!!! Has anyone on this board taken this for a prolonged time?
I hate taking anything. I'm wondering if I should just go back to the Prilosec.
