Hey Lee, So sorry to hear of this and hope you get to the bottom. Just want to mention I am also in atlanta. Have throat burning, some inflammation to the throat, nose symptoms (on rhinocort now) eust tube dysfunction, dizzy when lay down at nite (less than a minute), moderate esophagitis and gastritis according to last scope on 11/6. Will see gi to discuss this scope on this monday. On my second gi doc. Started w/Lucas in Marietta, she thought I was nuts. (I may be but that is beside the point ; ) Then she sent me down to Waring at Piedmont for ph and manometry. Normal in Feb, Normal again in May. Had friability at bottom of esoph in Jan. after 7 weeks on double prevacid. (had not been scoped previously to that) Lucas did not take biopsies during that scope and then bec. I was concerned took me back in in May to check the friable area (which looked better) for Barretts, came back not barretts. To my knowledge she did not even biopsy for gastritis or esophagitis. New doc Jagiella at Piedmont scoped me Nov 6 - mod. esoph and gastritis. She told me before she scoped me she did not think I was a candidate for surgery, that I would be a failure...
Meantime went on Nexium for 5 days, had more discomfort in stomach and esophagus after a few days on it, had to go off. Same thing happened on prevacid. Had some heartburn three days after I went off the nexium (never get heartburn), but only for a day and then it was over. Prob hypersecretion. Wondering what she will say on Monday. PPI seems to make things worse. I want to know if it is bile causing the problems. No one in Atlanta has a bile monitor. Probably will have to go out of town for it. Perhaps they don't have them because they don't know what to do with it once they find out. No med?? I may try ppi one more time, but for me it did not seem to help. Same for you, right? Were you ever helped b4 surgery with the ppis?? Took pepcid yesterday just to see if it would eliminate throat burn, which it did seem to help. But then my esophagus and stomach felt very uncomfortable.
We will all be thinking of you and hoping your doc can discover the problem thru the scope.
